A History of School

Way back with Socrates

We worked inside our own bodies

Had faith

Stood in a web of laced love

Connected to the lives of our tribe–

And our minds woke up.

 School, in the first sense,

Freed the mind and fed it.

Over time,

The schools solidified,

Became mandatory mental exercise.

But our lives also changed,

Stepping away from body work,

Releasing the lines of love

Until community became small and portable.

Still, our schools teach mind to mind,

The balance skewed,

Mental obesity an epidemic.

What if school taught only

Spirit,

Love,

And the work of hands?

Perhaps then,

Everyone would graduate.
